COLLEGE FOOTBALL — November 21
MARYLAND at FLORIDA STATE
(Florida State -19, Total 58.5) — The Seminoles play their second game since Christian Ponder went down with his injury. I don’t want to get too far into the psychology of this thing, but Florida State, rather than be in “look-ahead” mode toward next week’s game against Florida, has to be placing some extra emphasis on this game, but this is the winnable contest, not to mention the one that can make the Seminoles bowl-eligible. Of course, none of this is usually that easy for FSU, which has not displayed much defensive strength, nor much of a running game. However, you can’t help but be encouraged by the effort of new quarterback EJ Manuel last week, as he was 15 of 20 for 220 yards. Maryland may have a problem getting things together through the air in the absence of quarterback Chris Turner, as Jamarr Robinson has completed just 17 of 43 passes and has not led a touchdown drive yet. However, Robinson ran for 129 yards against the rock-ribbed Virginia Tech defense, and Da’Rel Scott, who had 1133 rushing yards last season but has missed five games with a broken wrist. This will offer a boost to the running game, and against this FSU stop unit that has allowed 5.2 yards a carry, that’s meaningful.
