College FB Free Play: NAVY at SMU (10/17)
COLLEGE FOOTBALL — October 17
NAVY at SMU
(Navy -6.5, Total 53.5) — June Jones landed at SMU, and he has the Mustangs’ passing game humming. Right now SMU is rated 15th in the nation in passing; however, they don’t have very much experience practicing against an option offense, and that creates an awkward tactical disadvantage. Sophomore quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell has thrown for a lot of yards (1485) but he’s also made a lot of mistakes (10 interceptions, and three run back for TD’s). The Mustangs aren’t as porous as one might expect against the run (4.2 ypc allowed), and they’ve squeezed out wins over UAB and East Carolina. Navy is experienced at going on the road (12-4 ATS last 16 as the visitor), and if Ricky Dobbs has to go to the air, we’ve seen against Ohio State that he can do it. We see a greater possibility of Navy’s stop unit (seven interceptions) holding their ground and creating opportunities than the other way around.
